Despatch No. 31 of the 8th. February, 1895, I have the

honour to forward for Your Lordship's favourable consider-

-ation the enclosed copy of a joint letter from Messrs.

Butter-

Jardine, Matheson and Company, Limited, and Messrs.

-field and Swire, dated the 27th. ultimo, requesting that,

ameliorated, at any rate the present scale of import
